Key words in ACT reading
1) Repeated words, conjugate, parallel words:
these words are usually the correct answers
Repeated words: if a word ( or phrase) is repeated twice or more, it is a key word and also just the correct answer. If a choice includes such repeated word, it should be the correct choice.
conjugate examples: form-formation-forming, create-creation-creative, society-social-socially
parallel words examples: informal, unadvertised; Innocence and ignorance
2) Features of Important words:
l Words that can express authors’ opinions are key words.
l Words that are purposely chosen by author.
l words that have literacy grace (beautiful words)
l Key words are usually not very easy and also not too hard.
3) The types and examples of key words ( important parts of speech)
Adjective: sustainable, brilliant, different, complex, unique
Adverb: alphabetically, suddenly, eventually
Abstract noun: confluence of circumstance (74F), innovation, creativity, sense,
Important verbs: dominate, pioneer, differ
